What Is Bybit Copy Trading

Bybit copy trading means your Bybit account automatically replicates trades from a signal provider in real time. The moment the provider opens a position, yours opens too, at the same entry, same direction, and same risk parameters, without you watching the screen.

There are two main routes. Bybit native copy trading is built into the exchange and lets you follow approved providers directly. API-based copy trading uses a third-party platform like AO Shadow to copy signals from external sources such as Discord channels, giving you access to traders not listed on Bybit marketplace.

What You Need Before You Start

You need a verified Bybit account with futures trading enabled and USDT in your futures wallet. A minimum of $200 is realistic for meaningful position sizes, though $1,000 or more gives you better scaling. If you are using AO Shadow, you also need an account at shadow.aotrading.io.

How to Set Up Bybit Native Copy Trading

Step 1: Go to Trade in the top nav and select Copy Trading. You land on the provider marketplace.

Step 2: Choose a provider. Bybit shows win rate, total PnL, follower count, max drawdown, and AUM for each provider. Filter by 30-day performance rather than all-time. A provider with a great all-time record and a bad last 30 days is not what you want right now.

Step 3: Set your allocation. Click Follow. Set how much USDT to allocate and a max loss limit as a circuit breaker. If your losses reach that amount, copying stops automatically.

Step 4: Go live. Every trade the provider opens copies proportionally to your account. No further action required.

The limitation with native copy trading is that you are restricted to Bybit approved providers. You cannot copy a private Discord group or external signal channel through this route.

How to Set Up AO Shadow API Copy Trading

AO Shadow connects to Bybit via API and copies trades from the AO Trading signal channels. Trader results change over time. Review current sample size, wins, losses, drawdown, and profit at dashboard.aotrading.io/traders before copying anyone. No signup required to verify them.

Step 1: Create your Bybit API key. Log into Bybit. Go to Account and Security, then API Management. Click Create New Key. Name it something like AO Shadow. Set permissions to Trade and Position only. Do not enable withdrawal permissions under any circumstances. Copy the API Key and Secret Key.

Step 2: Create your AO Shadow account at shadow.aotrading.io. The free Sentinel tier requires no credit card. For copy trading via Echo and access to AO signal channels, you need AO All Access. The first month is $49 with code BONKERS, then $199 per month.

Step 3: Connect your Bybit API. Inside Shadow, go to Settings then Exchange Connection. Paste your API Key and Secret Key. Shadow verifies the connection and shows your futures wallet balance.

Step 4: Configure Sentinel. Sentinel is Shadow position protection layer. It automatically sets TP and SL on every position that enters your Bybit account within 200ms. Configure your preferred TP levels and stop loss percentage. This runs automatically from this point on.

Step 5: Enable Echo. Go to the Echo section inside Shadow. You will see the available AO signal channels and each trader record. Select which traders you want to copy. You can follow one or all of them.

Step 6: Test with a small position. Open a small manual position on Bybit and verify that Shadow picks it up and sets the protection parameters. Confirm everything is working before trading at full size.

How Much Capital Do You Need

For Bybit native copy trading, each provider sets their own minimum allocation, typically $50 to $200.

For AO Shadow, there is no hard minimum but most active copiers run $1,000 to $5,000. The AO signal channels use 25x leverage on most signals. At $200, position sizes will be very small relative to the original signal. At $1,000, the scaling becomes more meaningful.

Common Setup Mistakes

Do not enable withdrawal permissions on your Bybit API key. AO Shadow only needs Trade and Position access. An API key with withdrawal enabled is a serious security risk.

Do not put your entire futures balance into copy trading. Keep a buffer for drawdowns.

Do not skip Sentinel configuration. If Shadow is connected but Sentinel is unconfigured, positions may enter without automatic stop loss protection.

Do not copy too many traders simultaneously on a small account. Multiple traders can open positions at the same time, and overlapping sizes can exceed your intended risk.

What Happens After Setup

A signal fires in the AO Discord channel, Shadow detects it, opens the position on your Bybit account, and sets the TP and SL levels within 200ms. You receive a notification. Every trade is tracked on the Shadow dashboard and on the public AO dashboard at dashboard.aotrading.io/traders.

The setup takes under 20 minutes. The key is getting the API permissions and Sentinel configuration right on the first pass.
